Maternal health program that introduces vulnerable first-time parents to caring maternal and child health nurses. Program nurses deliver the support first-time moms need to have a healthy pregnancy, become knowledgeable and responsible parents, and provide their babies with the best possible start in life. The relationship between mother and nurse provides the foundation of the program. Requirements for acceptance in the program are:  Medicaid eligibility, first-time parent, resident of Orleans or Jefferson Parish, and less than 29 weeks of pregnancy.

Crisis intervention/Parent education hotline 24/7 Under Louisiana’s Safe Haven Law, parents who are unable to care for a baby can bring their baby less than 60 days old to an emergency designated facility, or Safe Haven. By leaving the baby in the care of an employee at a Safe Haven facility, parents can give up custody of a baby with no questions asked. Parents can seek to reclaim parental rights within 30 days by contacting the local parish Office of Community Services.

Saul's Light supports Louisiana's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and bereaved families by responding to their unique social-emotional needs during their journeys. Saul's Light offers NICU and/or bereavement peer support, as well as connections and referrals to community resources, assistance programs and perinatal mental health resources. Saul's Light also offers limited support for transportation and material resource needs for NICU families.  Additionally, Saul's Light partners with Fourth Trimester NOLA to run a monthly stillbirth and infant loss support group. Support provided to trans/non-binary people. While we are New Orleans-based, we work with families throughout Louisiana. For our NICU support program, we can only support families who currently have babies in a Louisiana NICU. For referrals, please include: name, number, email and language.

GSPB distributes free emergency contraception, pregnancy tests, condoms, and reproductive health information resources across Louisiana and the Gulf South. They provide free mail-request emergency contraception by filling out their webform (linktr.ee/gulfsouthplanb). Free kits include two (2) doses of emergency contraception and other health supplies. Kits are mailed within two (2) weeks of request. GSPB also provides bulk emergency contraception to community groups across the Gulf South. Contact via webform or email for more information.
